Chapter 02
The trend

These are the chosen ones to head our hit list for the new season.

They are the key garments that a masculine closet can’t lack. Our undisputed essentials. Absolutely all of them fulfill the requirements of the season: maximum versatility and the exact touch of class to make the return to routine more stylish. Smooth feel skin, exquisite cotton, and warm knitwear are the standards of a renewed cosmopolitan style that are joined against autumnal cold.  Massimo Dutti’s code dictates: colour: earth tone colour scheme; inspiration: everything leads to a new generation of urban gentlemen; fabric: the natural ones become hits; style: cosmopolitan and discreetly daring.

The icon

New York has something special that makes it be the capital of the Occidental world. Its streets, its architecture, its cultural offer, its cosmopolitan character… Everything refers to urban avant-garde. Nevertheless, only some “chosen ones” have the privilege of being authentic New Yorkers, because they were born there, and because they are worthy wearers of one of the most exported styles of the planet. Authentic New Yorkers such as Adrien Brody, Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Brian Bloom or Michael Rosenbaum can brag about showing off this characteristic looking that combines smartness with a certain relaxed look. Massimo Dutti echoes this iconic style and its evocative collection includes garments as emblematic as the smooth leather jackets, light knit pullovers, exquisite white shirts and new minimal-marking trousers, always loyal to the brand’s spirit.

Sartorial Lesson

The collar and the cuffs of a shirt are the key points to make the style of a shirt more formal or, otherwise, more casual.  If its style is formal or, otherwise, if it has a more casual style.

Collars

English Collar or Turdown collar: it has a higher cutting, straight collar tips and it usually includes bones to keep it stiffer. It is the favourite for the most classical tastes.

Italian Collar or Spread Collar: it is perfect to show off a double knot Windsor tie. Its collar tips are slightly oval and the points are more separated.

Button Collar or button-down: this collar is similar to the English one, but the points are fastened to the shirt by buttons. Mainly used in casual style shirts.

Mao Collar or Mandarin collar: this collar is formed by a turned up, sash cut, and buttoned closure part. It is mainly used for perky-styled shirts.

 Cuffs

Simple Cuff: having one single buttoned-closure, it is appropriate both for formal and casual shirts.  Its size is normally 7 cm.

Double cuff: with a double layer and one single or pair aligned buttons closure, it is used for smart shirts.

Mixed Cuff: similar to simple cuff but with the option of hiding the button with cufflinks.

The Items

Leather has become the perfect company due to the lowest temperature. With the summer in sight, when nappa leather was the star, python meanders through masculine fashion and stands out with accessories that surprise us with irresistible and elegant versions. Soft and with a smooth finishing, it promises to become a must.

Culty tip

Contemporary art is on fashion.  And so demonstrates the growing interest for certain artists and their works. Investing in art is profitable, and besides, cool.

New patrons have joined to the traditional collector. They come from different social levels looking for alternative investments and for whom contemporary art is a reliable destination for their money. The scarcity of great classical artists’ works and the eagerness for new consumers’ art –including an infinite amount of celebs- have made works’ value skyrocket. Galleries, new museums, biennial exhibitions, collections, and fairs proliferate everywhere. Arty is party, say the trendsetters who encourage the richest collective to include some recognized-brand objects within their belongings.

Arty popes

Hans Ulrich Obrist: he is one of the most prestigious curators of contemporary work. She is currently working as Co-director of Exhibitions and Programs and as a director of International Projects in the Serpentine Gallery of London.

Mila Askarova: she is the coolest gallery owner of London. Founder and director of Gazelli Art House, she was born and grew in Azerbaijan, and it was after moving to London when she became the gallery owner with the best agenda of the British capital. It is compulsory to visit her exhibitions within the arty route around the city.

Damien Hirst: British artist considered an emblematic representative of the “Young British Artists” (YBA) movement. Hirst is admired and reviled and his work is one of the most polemics. His works made him be at the top of the worldwide contemporary art and obtain awards such as Turner. Also, he designed sleeves and has directed a video clip and a film.

Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld. Being Carine Roitfeld’s son and godson of Mario Testino himself, Vladimir has carved his own career as an artistic agent, promoting promising art representative such as Richard Hambleton.

Valeria Napoleone: one of the most famous collectors nowadays. She is especially fond of feminine artists, and her parties have become it sessions with regular attendants such as David Hockney, Rupert Sanderson or Adam Clayton, of U2.

The Five Most

With a 19th century cutting, which has hardly been modified, they are so-called Chino pants because China hosted a massive production of this type of trousers, originally used by soldiers, made of a comfortable, tough, wide-cutting, and kaki fabric. They’ve become the best option for weekends and relaxing days. They are the perfect outfit for a luxurious weekend, combined with an Oxford shirt, a blazer, and a pair of nautical-styled moccasins.
