Iconic Destinations
/
There are destinations and characters that have a strong mutual bond. This is a selection of our favourites.
MARRAKECH
The close relationship between the designer and this Moroccan city began in 1966 after a journey together with his business and sentimental partner, Pierre Bergé. From then on, they established a bond with Marrakesh that was never broken. For Saint Laurent, it represented a creative haven where he hid himself away twice a year in order to work on the first sketches of his collections.
FRENCH RIVIERA
The French Riviera, and its inherent chic aesthetic, shouts names such as Jane Birkin from the rooftops. This small corner of the French coast has become the epitome of glamour thanks to celebrities such as Birkin who have contributed to the idealisation of its beaches and the style that can be seen on them.
TANGER
Paul Bowles said that Tangier was “a waiting room between connections, a transition from one way of being to another”. He remained in this temporary space for five decades. His novel The Sheltering Sky portrayed the most brilliant years of this exotic setting where “dawns and dusks accumulated” on the rooftops.
MONTENEGRO
One of our favourite models has enjoyed this country that enamours with its medieval cities, minute islands and rugged landscapes. Montenegro, “the most beautiful encounter between land and sea” according to Lord Byron, is now a desirable destination that even Instagram has succumbed to. The city of Budva or the beaches of Dobren and Mogren are just some of its best kept secrets.
TULUM
Discovered by Andy Warhol, Basquiat is, without a doubt, the most important and well-known artist of the graffiti movement that took over the New York scene at the beginning of the 80’s. His extravagant tastes and artistic genius fostered his predilection for this natural paradise where today his work can be admired in spaces as unique as Casa Malca.
COMPORTA
Next to Coimbra and an hour from Lisbon by car, we find the favourite beach location of one of the most chic actresses. With its relaxed atmosphere, its untamed beaches and eco-chic soul, Comporta is a coastal town in the Alentejo region of Portugal that offers peace, tranquillity and the possibility of calm holidays.
