Architect and interior designer Hugo Sauzay shares some of his most emblematic architecture and interior design projects with Paper magazine, including two hotels that have become dream destinations.
All of Hugo’s projects stand out for their eclectic and minimalist aesthetic, the result of a combination of ultramodern objects with classic elements.
Les Rouches Rouges
Agay, Saint Raphael France
A paradise on the French Riviera. The Roches Rouges hotel is a haven of beauty which recreates the textures, colours, and spirit of its surroundings, the ideal place to reconnect with nature. The colour scheme for the entire property is sky blue, pure white and red ochre, three colours which feature heavily in the surroundings.
Room with a sea view
A taste of the Mediterranean and of Provence
A seaside location and a clear focus on providing maximum well being for guests are two of the values of this hotel in Provence, located between St. Tropez and Cannes. The interior features the use of materials such as polished concrete, distressed oak and terracotta ceramics.
Hotel Le Pigalle
9 rue Frochot, Paris 9 th
Just a few minutes on foot from Place Pigalle, part of this hotel’s charm is its status as a “neighbourhood hotel”, with the different services it offers being locally sourced. For instance, the books on sale in the hotel shop are a selection from a nearby book store and the music playing in the bar is composed by a DJ who lives in Place Pigalle.
Interior design details
The interior design is an example of a classic but carefully chosen selection of vintage and contemporary pieces, the only aim being to make guests feel at home. One thing that the refurbishment achieved was to respect and retain the most characteristic features of this typical 19th-century Parisian building.
