Johannes Huebl’s Secret Address Book
This month’s guest editor shares his secret list of favourite places in New York.
DUMBO (BROOKLYN)
“A beautiful neighbourhood encompassing two areas; the area between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, connecting Brooklyn to Manhattan via the East River and the other continuing east from Manhattan Bridge towards the Vinegar Hill neighbourhood. There are three parks.”
CECCONI’S
“One of the most beautiful places in the Dumbo neighbourhood, with views of Washington Bridge. This is the perfect place to enjoy a meal or snack with incredible views, or brunch at the weekends.”
SOHO DUMBO HOUSE
“This is the third “members-only club” that Soho House has opened in the city. The club is in an industrial building, an old 19th-century coffee factory, just off Brooklyn Bridge Park. There is a large terrace with views of the Brooklyn Bridge and a pool on what must be New York’s most beautiful rooftop. ”
THE LOWER EAST SIDE
“This is an area of Manhattan between Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn (between the Manhattan Bridge and the Williamsburg Bridge). It’s my favourite part of the city at night. There are great bars on Orchard Street, one of the main streets, with DJ sessions all week.”
CASA MEZCAL
“Mexican restaurant with seating for 100 people and serving mezcal tequila while you listen to incredible music.”
SANT AMBROEUS SOHO
“This is the restaurant I go to most often for the excellent Italian food in a relaxed atmosphere and the best company in New York. My friend Alireza created this space for friends to come together under one roof and enjoy exquisite Italian delicacies.”
Public Hotel
“Ian Schrager, founder of the legendary studio 54, is behind Public Hotel, the place everyone’s talking about in the Big Apple. You can enjoy a fantastic American menu from chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.”
GITANE
“Still one of my favourite places in the city. A small French-Moroccan coffee shop in Nolita, serving delicious food and with excellent Burgundy wines.”
LUCIEN
“I love this beautiful little French brasserie in the East Village for daily lunch or a weekend brunch. You’ll feel as if you were in Paris.”
CROSBY HOTELS
“Part of the Firmdale Hotels group. Perfect location and service. Large rooms with very comfortable beds and furniture, where you’ll immediately feel at home.”
