Now that five minutes on Instagram is enough time to find out how the rest of the world is spending their time at home learning culinary skills worthy of a Michelin star, rereading Dante’s Divine Comedy, making the most of their creativity or taking on new challenges, it makes a refreshing change to hear from some of our favorite ambassadors and share some snapshots from their daily lives or their dreams for the future.
01
What is your new daily routine?
My “new normal” is waking up around 8am and having a leisurely breakfast whilst catching up on the morning news via the BBC. My fiancé Melissa and I, will then take Vinnie (our miniature dachshund) out for a walk to either Victoria Park, Hackney Wick or Tower Hamlets Cemetery.
At home we are fortunate enough to have the benefit of some outside space, so when the weather allows, we will sit on the balcony to have lunch or coffee, to do some reading or listen to some music.
We will usually do an hour’s exercise around 4pm and then start thinking about food again.
After dinner we will usually log onto a Zoom chat with some friends or family or watch a film or documentary…before you know it, it’s time to go to bed and do it all over again!
02
Out of bed but nowhere to go… How to dress cozy, to feel comfy and look fantastic?
Melissa and I have very different outlooks on this, Melissa tends to go get up in the morning and dress in a smart but casual manner, she says that it makes her feel “normal in a time that isn’t”, where as I have found myself making very different wardrobe choices, ones that are based purely on comfort. That’s not to say I’ve stopped caring what I look like; I haven’t, I’ve just found myself choosing to wear functional items of clothing that have a different aesthetic value to them. I never thought I would choose to wear loungewear and casual wear over tailoring but it’s just not practical to wear a three-piece suit to walk the dog or a double-breasted jacket to do DIY.
03
How you are spending your time at home? Your confinement best plan.
I’ve been trying to reconnect with the things that are truly important to me; taking time to speak with my friends and my family, reading, especially books that will help me grow and develop as a person. I’ve also been embracing the tasks that I’ve been saving for “a Rainy Day”. If this isn’t that Rainy Day, I don’t know what is…
04
What’s on your bedside?
At the moment: Dr Dennis Gross Exfoliating Moisturiser, Tom Ford Hydrating Lip Balm, Anatomē Recovery and Sleep essential oils. This Works Neroli and Sweet Orange candle, a photograph by Robert Mapplethorpe.
05
Your favorite window’s view?
We live in a beautiful Red brick, Grade II listed building in East London that has a wonderful communal garden In the centre of it. At the heart of the garden is a large Coy Carp pond that is teaming with nature, it’s wonderful to watch this time of year.
06
These days at home you miss more…
I’ve realised that I took the ability to see my friends and family for granted. Whether it was for a quick coffee or a long weekend away, I miss that connection.
07
A book you always wanted to read and now (at last) you are reading?
I have been reading a lot of books of art and design in an attempt to learn and develop my basic knowledge on the subject. I’ve also been reading a lot of mid-century Eastern European science fiction. Very niche I know. I’ve made my way through quite a few of Isaac Asimov’s works as well as Stanislaw Lem’s. I would highly recommend Foundation by the former and Fiasco by the latter.
08
A film you always wanted to watch and now (at last) you are watching?
We are both really into film, so I don’t think there is anything we have ever put off watching.
09
What’s the first thing you will do after the confinement?
Visit my family home, my parents and my two brothers are all there and we haven’t seen each other since lockdown began.
