Sabine Marcelis, an acclaimed artist among the most elite circles of contemporary art, produces lamps, mirrors and a spectacular variety of abstract objects that reflect her particular vision of the effects of light on colour, and how this fusion creates amazing visual effects.

Sabine Marcelis uses her studio in Rotterdam as the base of operations for most of her pieces, commissions and collaborations with large corporations and architectural studios like the Victor Hunt Designart Dealer gallery in Brussels and the Dutch materials company, Baars & Bloemhoff.

Her approach to her art is based on learning from experts in industries that range from glass to neon to acrylic stones. Pieces of great artistic beauty result, with the path of light creating unexpected optical effects while enhancing the material’s colour properties for a truly unique aesthetic experiment.

Sabine Marcelis’s art has already toured the world’s most outstanding art museums, including the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and design galleries Etage Projects (Denmark), Side Gallery (Spain) and Bensimon (France).

Her creations also have a following among the highest ranks of the fashion industry along with names like Massimo Dutti, who chose the concept store on Paseo de Gracia as an exhibition centre for Marcelis’s work; a space in which fashion, art and technology coexist in total harmony.

Soft touches of colour and geometric shapes gave the historic building a cutting-edge feel.

Marcelis’s light-filled structures were strategically located in different corners of the store.

Under the title “SPLENDOUR”, the partnership between the Dutch artist and Massimo Dutti included the creation of a series of light-filled pieces where the mix of different shapes and colour graduation were the main feature.

These large pieces of great artistic beauty were strategically placed in different parts of the flagship store that Massimo Dutti opened in the heart of the Paseo de Gracia. The contrast between the setting and its incalculable historic value and the cutting-edge, futuristic style that the artist gives to all her creations made this installation an artistic must-see when visiting the city.
