( MYLÈNE ALRAN )

Perfumer Mylène Alran brings her creative universe to the new citrus fragrance collection, crafting a scent that is luminous, sophisticated and deeply Mediterranean.
Throughout your career, you have established yourself as one of the industry’s most renowned perfumers. Looking back, what were the defining moments and influences that shaped your journey and led you to perfumery?
Looking back, I believe my journey began long before I became a perfumer. I grew up in the southwest of France, where scents were an essential part of my childhood. I still remember the smell of the earth after the rain, the river and our family orchard. Those olfactory memories awakened my sensitivity to fragrance and continue to influence the way I create today.
Another defining moment was the beginning of my career in Grasse. Being immersed in the birthplace of perfumery gave me a profound respect for the craft. I was also fortunate to learn alongside Michel Almairac, whose talent and generosity have left a lasting mark on the way I approach fragrance creation.
I also feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with inspiring people at Givaudan and to create using exceptional raw materials. Nature remains my greatest source of inspiration, although I believe inspiration can come from anywhere—a journey, architecture, fashion, gastronomy or simply everyday life. Observing the world and collecting emotions is an essential part of my creative process, because you never know which one will eventually become a fragrance.
Every new creation teaches me something different and continues to enrich my perspective as a perfumer.
Perfumery is a deeply personal form of expression. What attracted you most to collaborating with Massimo Dutti, and how did you connect with the brand’s universe?
What immediately drew me to Massimo Dutti was our shared appreciation for timeless elegance and the value of carefully selected materials. The brand conveys a quiet, authentic and natural sophistication, a quality I found especially inspiring.
I also admire its understated approach to luxury. There is a balance between simplicity, elegance and authenticity that resonates deeply with my own creative vision, making this collaboration feel entirely natural from the very beginning.
When you began developing this fragrance, what emotions, memories or images did you hope to convey through the scent?
When I started working on it, I wasn’t thinking of a particular place or a specific memory as much as I was pursuing a feeling. I wanted to create a fragrance with a soft, fluid texture, where each ingredient would blend naturally into the next, resulting in a seamless and harmonious composition.
For me, texture is just as important as the scent itself. It defines the way a fragrance evolves, how it embraces the skin and the impression it leaves over time.
I wanted it to evoke the feel of a natural fabric—soft, fluid and timeless. A fragrance that conveys quiet sophistication and gradually becomes part of the person wearing it, never overpowering, always effortless.
Massimo Dutti is renowned for its timeless elegance and understated aesthetic. How did you translate those values into an olfactory creation?
The first thing I thought about was the materials. Just as Massimo Dutti’s identity is built on carefully selected fabrics, I wanted to build this fragrance around exceptional raw materials, ensuring that every ingredient had a clear purpose and meaning within the composition.
Throughout your career, you have collaborated with some of the most prestigious names in the industry. What made this project particularly meaningful to you?
What made this project so special was the clarity of its vision and the natural connection I felt with the brand’s universe. From the very beginning, the creative process was fluid, inspiring and incredibly rewarding.
How do you think people’s relationship with fragrance has evolved in recent years? What are consumers looking for in a fragrance today?
Today, the relationship with fragrance has become far more personal and emotional. It is no longer perceived simply as the final step before leaving the house, but as a true extension of one’s identity.
I also believe consumers are looking for authenticity and meaning. They care about how a fragrance makes them feel, the quality of its ingredients and the story behind it.
At the same time, there is a growing appreciation for texture, subtlety and individuality. More than ever, we seek fragrances that feel personal—less about attracting attention and more about becoming an intimate, everyday ritual.
If you had to define this fragrance for Massimo Dutti in just three words, what would they be, and why?
Distinctive. Fluid. Timeless.
Because it has a clear and recognisable identity, capable of standing out without ever being overt. Fluid, because the composition is built around movement and the seamless transition between each ingredient. And timeless, because it expresses a quiet elegance that transcends trends.
