The opening of Massimo Dutti’s new store in Copenhagen is complemented by an artistic intervention by Danish artist Rune Elmegaard, whose work is organically integrated throughout the boutique’s different spaces. Conceived specifically for this inauguration, the collaboration features a carefully curated selection of artworks that engage in dialogue with the store’s interior architecture and the brand’s new aesthetic language. Renowned for a practice that moves fluidly between fine art and furniture design, Elmegaard explores form, volume, and materiality through a distinctly Scandinavian sensibility. His abstract compositions bring texture, rhythm, and visual depth, establishing a natural balance with the understated materials and serene atmosphere of the space. The journey across the boutique’s two floors becomes an experience where art, design, and architecture coexist effortlessly. The project reaffirms Massimo Dutti’s commitment to embracing contemporary artistic practice as an essential part of a universe where culture, craftsmanship, and design remain in constant dialogue.

How would you describe your artistic language in just a few words?
Classical, playful, and international.
What inspires you most when starting a new piece?
The feeling of exploring and challenging myself is my driving force. Before I start a new piece, I become very aware of the energies around me. That is my starting point for every new work.
Your work often feels both minimal and deeply emotional. How do you balance those two qualities?
I work towards creating a soul in every piece, so it can be read and understood, just as we understand each other as human beings. I tame chaos, emotions, and inner unrest into something minimal and into an emotionally safe universe. That is my art, and it comes naturally to me.
What drew you to collaborate with Massimo Dutti on the ArtInProgress project?
For me, it’s about giving art new and inspiring spaces to perform and become integrated alongside fashion. That’s why I find a project like this both important and inspiring. I truly value this collaboration, and together we create new energy.
How do you see the relationship between art, design, and fashion today?
As artists and creators, we are becoming part of a bigger universe that is seen as one whole. Today, art, design, and fashion share a common language.
Is there a particular emotion or idea you hope people take away from your work?
I hope I can contribute by creating a sense of curiosity and balance. Through familiarity and calm rhythms, I hope my work brings a feeling of peace to the viewer.
How has growing up in Denmark shaped your artistic perspective?
The tradition of creating classical and abstract art is part of my DNA. It has had a great influence on both my art and my development as an artist.
What role does craftsmanship play in your creative practice?
Craftsmanship is a very important part of my process. I am always committed to delivering the highest quality, and every part of my craftsmanship is refined towards perfection. Every detail has my full attention in my artistic expression. Craftsmanship is what brings my paintings together.
What excites you most about sharing your work with a new audience through this project?
It excites me that this project gives so much attention to art and create a culture around it. I’m happy to meet you through my art.

The new store concept reflects a vision in which architecture, design, and experience converge to transform every visit into an inspiring and unhurried journey. Noble materials, natural wood, textured surfaces, and indirect lighting create a warm atmosphere that invites visitors to discover the space from a fresh perspective. Every element has been carefully conceived to foster a sense of harmony and well-being, reflecting Massimo Dutti’s aesthetic evolution toward a more refined and sensorial language. This new generation of stores also incorporates the most advanced eco-efficiency standards developed by the Inditex Group, significantly reducing both energy consumption and water usage.
