ArtInProgress, Massimo Dutti’s cultural initiative, was created with the ambition of supporting the work of contemporary artists and turning every new store opening into an opportunity to establish a dialogue between fashion, art, and place. To mark the inauguration of its new store on Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo in Lisbon, the brand presents a selection of works by Esther Gatón, an artist whose practice moves seamlessly between sculpture, installation, audiovisual media, and writing. Her research shifts attention away from the object itself toward the relationships it establishes with its surroundings, transforming the conventional meanings of materials through a deeply sensory language. Wood, organic surfaces, and skeletal references coexist in compositions where craftsmanship plays a central role, creating a delicate balance between fragility and strength. Each intervention offers an immersive experience in which volume, texture, and perception engage in dialogue with the architecture that houses them. Rather than treating art as a decorative element, ArtInProgress positions it as a natural extension of Massimo Dutti’s cultural universe, fostering encounters that enrich the visitor’s experience while strengthening an authentic connection with the local creative scene.

“Esther Gatón’s artistic practice blurs the boundaries between sculpture, installation, and architecture, revealing new relationships between materials, the body, space, and contemporary sensibility.”

Art, material, and space converge in Esther Gatón’s intervention in Lisbon.
The new Lisbon store embodies this same sensibility through an interior design concept conceived to transcend the conventional retail experience. The space embraces a refined aesthetic, where solid oak, handcrafted finishes, darkened metals with a brass patina, and indirect lighting create an intimate, serene, and sophisticated atmosphere. Every element has been carefully selected to provide depth, character, and a distinctive identity, integrating collections, furniture, artworks, and objects into a coherent narrative. This evolution reflects Massimo Dutti’s commitment to offering a holistic experience in which design, architecture, and creativity coexist in harmony, expressing the brand’s DNA while transforming every visit into an emotional, inspiring, and memorable journey.

The project also incorporates the latest eco-efficient store concept developed by the Inditex Group. Technological innovation and sustainability work hand in hand to reduce energy consumption by 30% and water consumption by 40% compared with a conventional retail store. This evolution reaffirms Massimo Dutti’s commitment to spaces where design, responsibility, and innovation come together to create a contemporary retail experience aligned with new ways of experiencing and inhabiting retail environments.
